 The Kimberley is one of Australia's last frontiers. It is still an area little travelled of great rivers and overwhelming scenery. The region suffers from climatic extremes, heavy rains in the wet season and searing heat in the dry.
The sheer beauty of the area however, makes a visit well worth the trouble. Firstly the Kimberley is
renowned for being one of the great ancient art galleries of the world See the Aboriginal section for more details. Secondly there are the great rivers, gorges and waterfalls. The
waterfalls at Kings Sound are not in fact waterfalls but immense tidal currents which can reach speeds of 20-30 knots in places. They have to be seen to be appreciated!
But perhaps the most famous aspect of the Kimberley (Okay, so Helen Daniels off Neighbours, was alway going there) is the Bungle Bungles. If Helen Daniel's recommendation is not enough it also has 'must see' status in numerous travel guides. The impressive rounded rock towers, striped in alternate orange and black are truly one of Australia's great wonders.
